About Seminar Mathematical Methods of Mechanics

The everlasting connection between mathematics, mechanics and physics was in the last third of the 20th century a spiritus movens of many fundamental mathematical ideas. Inspired by that the Seminar on Mathematical Methods of Mechanics was initiated in Mathematical Institute SANU in spring 1993, with the idea to participate in this stream of ideas in more active and systematic fashion.

There are two main tasks. First is to contribute to organization of postgraduate studies in this field in cooperation with the Chair of Geometry and Chair of Mechanics of the Faculty of Mathematics. The second task is to organize, direct and stimulate scientific work in our circles, and also to report on original research results. Most frequently the subject is integrability and nonintegrability of dynamical systems, simplectic geometry, Lie groups and algebras, qualitative analysis of differential equations, algebraic curves...

The seminar was initiated by Vladimir Dragovic, who is the chairman from the beginning. In some periods, the duty of a chairman was carried out by Nikola Buric (autumn 1994) and Darko Milinkovic (autumn 2000). In first years of the work, the Seminar had important support from senior researchers Veljko Vujicic, Stevo Komljenovic, Rade Zivaljevic...
