TESTING THE USABILITY OF DIFFERENT CAPTCHA TYPES
The Completely Automated Public Turing Test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) is designed to differentiate between human users and robotic computer programs. CAPTCHA is a standard security mechanism that aims to prevent malicious bot programs, and it should be robust and useful. To test the usability of CAPTCHA, statistical methods have been applied. Although usability consists of five elements, i.e. learnability, efficiency, memorability, errors and satisfaction, our studies have focused on efficiency, in particular the response time to solve different types of CAPTCHA. The response time was used as a usability parameter, while demographic and personal parameters were used as independent variables. We found that user's response time is correlated with the demographic characteristics, which lays the foundation for designing CAPTCHA schemes that are adjusted to different user categories.
