The Seminar for Automated Reasoning and Parallelism has been active for almost ten years in the Mathematical Institute.

In 1987 and 1988 a group of young research associates was working under the guidance of dr A. Krapež and M. Kapetanović developing the automated theorem provers PROVER 87 and REFORM I. In 1989 the scientific council of the Institute officially recognized the group under the name "The automated reasoning group". The group leader was dr. A. Krapež.

The group later turned into a seminar for automated theorem proving and parallelism and has met regularly ever since under the same leadership.

The principle purpose of the seminar is to provide a forum for the discussion of original work by the members of the seminar, but reports of meetings as well as reviews of new books and articles are also accepted, in particular those pertaining to the subject of the seminar.

Some of the topics discussed in the past include: the theorem provers PROVER and MODAL; parallel computer architectures; programming languages and the algorithms of their compilers (including C, LISP, PROLOG, LINDA, and PARFLEX); algorithms for task allocation in multiprocessor architectures; generating parallel and parallelization of sequential programs; using tableaux in theorem provers; calculus of preferences; and linguistics.
