(2) Use of multiple structures

Let's try to think about other rhythms.

Rhythms whose production processes are more complex will be considered. If a different method is used, a variation will be created in the rhythm as well. When a KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design) is combined with another KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design), the work of picking out rhythm from the combination will be tried:

(a) Selection of the KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design).
(b) Combination of multiple KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design).
(c) Determination of rhythmic shapes by intentional choice.

The points are the three items above. But, there is a case when (c) is unnecessary, and only (a) and (b) are needed. This is because there is a case when no more addition or reduction is needed since these combinations are outstanding.

In Figure 526, two sets of small square assemblies were combined. These assemblies contain shapes with different sizes. The combination without failure is generated because the lattice KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design) which connect the centers of the units are the same. More significant variations are created by composing the lattices by tilting the axis 45 degrees, which resulted in black shadow areas and more white areas.

The paintings in Figures 528 and 529 have an initial KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design) which is composed by a set of parallel lines. The first KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design) is divided by another of other parallel lines. Each black part is moved along the dividing lines, and shapes surrounded by the previous parallel lines and the dividing lines are carefully investigated. When we cannot get a good configuration, it is helpful to use methods to repeat the method further to do selection of the shapes or to do selection by preparing negative shapes. Complicated shapes of combined quadrilaterals, triangles, and others appear, and a rich rhythm is formed.
