On the other hand, in the education of engineering, "basic engineering science" has been advocated, and has been realized as a major study. For example, engineering majors in general universities have been constructing major subjects by way of division in response to types of industries in the industrial world, such as shipbuilding, engineering, construction, metal and oil science. 

In colleges based on the "basic engineering science" way of thinking of, the aim is to "provide education that brings up basic and important questions which commonly exist" in such vertical divisions, and "that makes students maintain the ability to practice for the improvement of the society". This is, in a sense, the horizonal division type way of thinking .

In short, as a result of the number of majors having increased so widely, it is the advocation of educational theory that questions the possibility of the way of educating students by the basic engineering science that forms the fundamental subject with a new context in which students maintain the fundamental way of thinking in the engineering science as a whole and the basic subjects which are necessary in the main problems in this age. Also, "basic law" has a similar way of thinking.
