(7) Unbalanced arrangement Balance

Symmetrical beauty is produced from the medium arrangement in which a feeling of equal quantity and distance is involved. On the contrary, there is also a medium of unbalanced arrangement. In this arrangement elements are positioned one-sided in a picture. If you weighed it on "the scales of balance", it would be unbalanced physically. However, it keeps its visual balance and at this point balanced beauty coexists with a feeling of tension. It is balance based on its "unbalance", so it contains more factors of movement than symmetrical beauty.

Let us examine this issue using Figure 147 among inserted examples in the following two pages. In this picture, the letters are made as small as possible and put together extremely near the edge of the picture, creating a feeling of tension. This arrangement produces a pleasant contrast between the position of the elements put close to the base and the large space of the center part, adding a light atmosphere to the whole picture.
