History and motivation

The General Assembly of Yugoslav Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics YUMECH'2001 has decided that  a special issue of Yugoslav  Journal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (TAM) should be devoted to 75th anniversary of late  Professor Rastko Stojanovic.

After that, due to consultations with some participants there has appeared an idea to organize also a small but highly specialized meeting.  Concerning the scientific field of Stojanovic it is seen that the series of  meetings named GEOMETRY, CONTINUA AND MICROSTRUCTURE initiated by Professor Gerard Maugin is very close to it. This series started in Paris (1997) with proceedings  published at Herrmann - Paris, the 2nd was held in Madrid (1998), the 3rd in  Mannheim (1999), the 4th in Torino (2000), and the 5th in  Sinaia-Romania (2001).  All the proceedings have been published. The last two  are going to appear soon  as a special issue of the Torino Math. Journal and a book of the Romanian Academy  of Science, respectively.

Thus, our conference has become 6th conference of this series and the papers of invited participants will be published in a special issue of TAM immediately after the conference.
