The centrifugal KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design)

1 Arrangement and multiplication

1 -- Various arrangements

I once published a serial article titled "The Four Rules of Arithmetic in Graphic Design" in a monthly magazine (the January-July 1964 issue of 'Dezain', Bijutsu-shuppansha), with the figures below. In short, these explain seven types of addition as a part of the whole manipulation of the formative KOHSEI (Basic Art & Design) in printing.

The main points of the classification are on the three types of formative combination: overlap, osculate, separate. As appeared in the multicolored printing, the overlapping manipulation is crucial the printing design. On the other hand, the typography method in which elements (type and ruled lines) are separately assorted is also important in printing.
