Best Mini-symposium Talk Award
We are delighted to announce that Physics, a distinguished international journal dedicated to advancing thermodynamics research, is proud to sponsor the Best Mini-symposium Talk Award at the 18th Joint European Thermodynamics Conference (JETC 2025). This award aims to recognize and celebrate exceptional oral presentations that demonstrate scientific excellence, innovative thinking, and compelling communication, fostering knowledge exchange and inspiring future breakthroughs in the field of thermodynamics.
Award Purpose
The Best Mini-symposium Talk Award highlights presentations that make significant contributions to thermodynamics—encompassing theoretical developments, experimental advancements, or interdisciplinary applications. We seek talks that not only showcase rigorous research but also engage audiences through clear articulation, creative problem-solving, and visionary insights into the challenges and opportunities within the discipline. By honoring such contributions, we aim to encourage early-career researchers and established scholars alike to share their work boldly and contribute to the vibrant academic community of thermodynamics.
Eligibility & Selection Criteria
All mini-smposium speakers at the JETC 2025 are eligible for consideration. Talks will be evaluated by the JETC 2025 audiance and approved by the Selection Committee which consists of distinguished experts from the JETC 2025 mini-syposium organizers based on:
• Scientific Merit: Originality, depth, and relevance of the research to thermodynamics and related fields.
• Innovation: Novel approaches, methodologies, or interpretations that push the boundaries of current knowledge.
• Presentation Quality: Clarity of structure, effective use of visual aids, engagement with the audience, and ability to communicate complex ideas accessibly.
• Impact Potential: Demonstrated potential to inspire further research, drive technological innovation, or address real-world challenges in energy, materials science, environmental science, and beyond.
Award Benefits
The recipient of the Best Mini-symposium Talk Award will receive:
• A cash prize of CHF 300 to support ongoing research or professional development.
• A certificate of recognition from Physics and JETC 2025, acknowledging their outstanding contribution.
• A waived submission fee for a manuscript submission to Physics, with expedited editorial processing (subject to standard peer review).
• Feature coverage on Physics's official website and social media channels, highlighting their work to a global audience of researchers and practitioners.
Selection Committee
The award committee comprises esteemed members of the JETC 2025 Organising Committee, ensuring a fair, rigorous, and expertise-driven evaluation process. Their collective insights will identify talks that exemplify the highest standards of scholarly communication and scientific leadership.
How to Apply
No formal application is required. All mini-symposia speakers at the JETC 2025 will be automatically considered for the award. Presentations must be delivered in English during the conference's scheduled oral sessions to be eligible.
Best Mini-symposium Talk Award Winner
The Best Mini-symposium Talk Award was decided by the votes of the audience and presented by the Selection Committee to Michael te Vrügt from the University of Mainz (Germany) for his outstanding talk "Is thermodynamics fundamental?". Congratulations!
