Waves are one of the most ubiquitous phenomena in nature, and their mathematical theory is the focus of this course. We will follow the book of G. B. Whitham "Linear and nonlinear waves", in which waves are roughly divided into two categories: hyperbolic and dispersive. The main focus will be on dispersive waves, however some attention will be given to hyperbolic waves as well. The course will be held on Wednesdays from 15:00 to 17:00 by Teodor Vrećica.

Researchers from our institute, Dr Šejla Dautović and Dr Bogdan Đorđević, have been elected as members of the European Mathematical Society's Young Academy (EMYA) for the period 2024-2027. The Academy aims to support young mathematicians by enhancing their career prospects and integrating them more closely into the academic community. It seeks to provide support for the development and research of PhD students and post-docs in mathematics, while also facilitating their integration into the EMS and its decision-making processes. By understanding the needs of the younger generation and staying informed about current developments, EMYA contributes to guiding the growth of the EMS.

Starting from November 21th until the end of January, every Tuesday from 10 to 12 AM Professors Tijana Šukilović and Srđan Vukmirović from the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade, will hold lectures entitled Groups in Geometry. The course will take place at the Mathematical Institute SANU, Kneza Mihaila 36, Room 301f. The aim of these lectures is to introduce beginners to the theory of Lie groups and Lie algebras, with the ultimate goal of working out the finite-dimensional representations of the classical groups.

MISANU became a member of ERCOM, European Research Centres on Mathematics. ERCOM is an European Mathematical Society (EMS) committee. ERCOM aims to contribute to the unity of Mathematics, from fundamentals to applications: to constitute a forum for communications and exchange of information between the centres themselves and EMS, to foster collaboration and coordination between the centres themselves and EMS, to foster advanced research training on a European level, to advise the Executive Committee of the EMS on matters relating to activities of the centres, to contribute to the visibility of the EMS to cultivate contacts with similar research centres within and outside Europe.
