Predavanje treba da se odrzi u sali 301f Matematickog instituta (Knez Mihailova 36, III sprat). Obratite, molim Vas, paznju na vreme odrzavanja predavanja. Na Seminaru za opstu teoriju dokaza predavanja nece biti svake nedelje, nego samo s vremena na vreme.

PARADOXES AND STRUCTURAL RULES

Abstract: The paradoxes, in particular Russell's antinomy, were a driving force for the development of mathematical logic in the 20th century. The major paradigms (set theory, type theory) restrict the formation of mathematical entities (sets, types), for example by weakening comprehension. However, since the work of Curry and Fitch in the 1930s, it is a well-known fact that restrictions on the underlying logic can block paradoxes as well, in particular by giving up contraction. From the point of view of Gentzen-style proof theory, this is a restriction of the structural principles of logic. The talk will deal with various plausible possibilities to restrict structural rules (identity, contraction, cut), but at a local level, which avoids the total abandoning of any of these rules. It will also deal with the possibility of introducing termination provisos for the application of cut in a sequent calculus with term-annotated formulas, which sheds some light on advantages the sequent calculus has over natural deduction.
