COMBUSTION OF GASEOUS FUELS WITH LOW CALORIFIC VALUE IN POROUS INERT MEDIA
In recent decades, intensive research and development of new burner systems has helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase combustion efficiency. Modern combustion systems are highly efficient and “clean” and can burn a wide range of fuels. In recent years, much attention has been paid to the combustion of gaseous fuels with a low calorific value. This is due to the fact that fossil fuels will become scarce in the near future. On the other hand, there is a constant battle with stricter emission regulations. Low calorific value gasses are usually produced as by-products of technological processes (e.g. blast furnace gas, waste gasses from cupola and coke ovens, etc.) or can be produced during the gasification of biomass or as landfill gas and gas from mines. Low calorific gas can be burnt in furnaces or boilers, in combustion chambers of gas turbines or gas engines either with or without additional high quality gaseous fuel (e.g. natural gas). Common problems with the combustion of low calorific value gaseous fuels are stability of combustion in a narrow operating range, high cost of additional equipment for safe operation of the burner system and instability of operation due to fluctuations in calorific value.
Combustion in porous inert media (PIM) differs significantly from open flame combustion systems. The first important factor influencing combustion in PIM is the high surface/volume ratio, which means high efficiency in heat transfer between flue gas and porous medium. The other factor is the intensive heat recovery in the porous media, which contributes to the stability of combustion, the ability to operate over a wide range and the stable combustion of lean fuel/air mixtures.
This lecture will introduce the basic characteristics of combustion of low calorific value gaseous fuel in PIM and discuss the parameters that determine the stable operating limits of porous burners.

THEORY OF CRITICAL DISTANCES (TCD) AND APPLICATIONS. I – THEORETICAL BASIS OF TCD. LINEAR THEORY OF ELASTICITY AND MECHANICS OF MATERIALS
The theoretical basis of the Theory of Critical Distances (TCD) will be discussed. The development of TCD will be analyzed based on the main postulates of the Theory of Elasticity and Mechanics of Materials.

Seminar Mehanika mašina i mehanizama - modeli i matematičke metode započeo je sa radom u junu 2018.god. Seminar se održava do dva puta mesečno, utorkom u periodu od 17.00 - 19.00 u Matematičkom institutu SANU.
