ELECTROMECHANICAL ENERGY CONVERSION: MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF AN ELECTROMAGNETIC VIBRATORY ACTUATOR
Electric machines operate on the principle of electromechanical energy conversion, enabling the transformation of electrical inputs into controlled mechanical outputs. Electromechanical energy conversion lies at the heart of modern machines and devices, providing the fundamental process through which electrical energy is transformed into mechanical motion. This lecture will explore the theoretical foundations of electromechanical conversion, including electromagnetic principles, mechanical modeling, and coupling mechanisms that govern the interaction between electrical inputs and mechanical outputs. Special emphasis will be placed on the mathematical frameworks used to describe these processes, offering insight into the dynamics of actuators, motors, and vibratory systems. The lecture will also highlight the importance of simulation as a predictive tool for analyzing system behavior, alongside experimental validation to bridge theory and practice.

FROM CONSTITUTIVE LAW TO FRACTURE: MODELING AND EXPERIMENTAL TESTING OF TINI SHAPE MEMORY ALLOYS
Shape memory alloys (SMA) are widely used as sensors or actuators, exhibiting phenomena such as pseudoelasticity and the shape-memory effect. Their high-temperature sensitivity induces strong thermomechanical coupling, increasing the need to simulate realistic, complex responses. Multiaxial stress states and large deformations require accurate finite-strain analysis. Model parameters are identified, and predictions are validated against experiments on TiNi specimens tested over a range of loading rates. Cyclic loading conditions lead to damage in SMA and possible fracture, which can be simulated using a phase-field damage modeling approach. The lecture will explore a reformulated phenomenological constitutive SMA model, its extension to large-strain problems based on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient, the phase-field method for modeling damage in SMA structures, simulation of SMA thermomechanical behavior using in-house software, and the experimental investigation of TiNi SMA samples under various loading rates.

Seminar Mehanika mašina i mehanizama - modeli i matematičke metode započeo je sa radom u junu 2018.god. Seminar se održava do dva puta mesečno, utorkom u periodu od 17.00 - 19.00 u Matematičkom institutu SANU.
