LINEAR CONFORM MODEL OF CELLULAR GROWTH
In both physiological and pathological conditions cells change their shape and size. Cell stiffness is one of the experimental parameters according to which healthy cells can be distinguished from cancer cells. There are many isotropic and anisotropic cell growth models described in the literature. Here we provide a geometric description of isotropic cell growth using a linear conform geometric model by constructing invariants as monic polynomials of Ricci tensors. Two cases are considered: 1) cell as elastic solid with the membrane as a shell 2) cell as elastic solid. For both cases, we obtained a new set of rules describing how a cell changes with or without any external action. The corresponding results describe the cellular response in terms of curvature relative to changes in the metric tensor (the alteration of its form) or changes in its input caused by external actions.
Joint lecture with the Seminar for Differential Geometry, Continuum Mechanics, and Mathematical Physics.
