ADVANCING RESILIENCE AND ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGES THROUGHOUT GENERAL AND SPECIFIC STANDARDIZATION
With a very high degree of certainty, it is possible to state that today's humanity exists in an environment that generates various pressures on almost all elements of society. In line with this tendency, the parallel effects of climate changes can only generate more pressure on natural and artificially created urban ecosystems, further burdening society. Having it in mind, system standards can be a very effective tool in the development of response to the mentioned climate-related hazards either at the national or local level, because their application improves the quality of work, environmental protection, occupational safety and health, monitoring, communication, early warning, etc. This is of particular importance in emergent issues like climate change adaptation coupled with urban settlements resilience improvement. The purpose of the lecture is to present the importance of the general and sector specific standards, as well as their advantages and limitations, for possible applications in the field of climate changes adaptation as well as to building resilience to climate changes triggered adverse effects. This approach will enable academics and local self-government professionals to elaborate the value of using standardization outcomes, primarily in the proactive way. The main conclusion of the paperwork is that an efficient, effective and standardized system of response to climate changes (as well as prediction and prevention) represents one of the key tools for the successful implementation of all measures within the so-called resilience management continuum.
