CAPACITIES OF MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION-MAKING METHODS FOR THE LOCATION OF WASTE TREATMENT FACILITY
Decision making is an important aspect in managing processes and systems, which implies the existence and consideration of alternative choices. The main goal of the multi-criteria decision-making method is to provide support to decision-makers in case of wide choice of alternatives to the problem.
This presentation provides an overview of the multi-criteria analysis methods with a special emphasis on the method of multi-criteria decision-making, known as Analytic Hierarchy Process. During the last decade, the AHP method has become one of the most extensively used methods for solving a variety of problems in different areas of interest. There are numerous advantages of applying the AHP method to adress environmental issues, such as for example the ability to assess the environmental impacts which involves various compromises. The AHP helps us obtain complex assessments by diverse experts who operate on a shared platform. Also, the AHP grants accuraccy because it has an adequate mechanism to check the consistency of estimates.
When it comes to choosing the most suitable location for waste treatment, the preferred alternative is to determine the position of an industrial facility in relation to the elements in the environment and other socio-economic and environmental factors. Industrial location is chosen by decision-making, taking into account all the alternatives, because a sustainable functioning of new plants requires a balance between efficient industrial activity, environmental protection and economic sustainability. Based on pre-determined alternatives, this study will present the application of the AHP method with the aim to find location for waste treatment facility.
