USING DECISION TREES FOR EDUCATIONAL DATA MINING
Data mining is process which utilizes techniques and methods to extract useful information from data. As such, these methods can be used for decision making and can be applied in various fields, such as management, education, marketing, engineering, medicine. Among other techniques, data mining uses decision tree algorithms to build a model in a form of a tree structure that will provide useful information for decision making. This lecture will discuss the application of decision tree algorithms in educational data mining, and their advantages and disadvantages. The algorithms are applied on data concerning past students’ performance, which creates a model that is used for predicting future performance. The model can improve decision making by extracting the right information that could enhance the learning process.
