The last meeting in November of the Seminar on Computer Science and Applied Mathematics is devoted to the 20th anniversary of the first journal paper on Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) metaheuristic. This method is among the most successful tools in Mathematical Optimization and Operations Research fields. One of its founders, Professor Nenad Mladenović will give a lecture on VNS methodology and its numerous applications.

The prize committees have chosen the laureates:
- For Mathematics and Mechanics: Dragan Đokić (Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade), and Bogdan Đorđević (Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Niš), and
- For Computer Sciences: Ljubica Vujović (School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade), and Petar Trifunović (School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade).
The Award Ceremony will take place in the Institute on November 17, 2017. The laureates and all award nominees are warmly congratulated for their outstanding contributions.

TThe conference is dedicated to the renowned mathematician Walter Gautschi, one of the founders of modern numerical analysis. Walter Gautschi is one of the the world leading scientists in the field of numerical analysis, special functions and approximation theory and a longtime professor at Purdue University.

The PhD School in Mathematics in Serbia (SMS) is a joint graduate school of the mathematics departments of four Serbian Universities, Niš, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Novi Pazar, and Mathematical Institute of the of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Its primary objective is to provide doctoral training at the highest level in an international environment.
