PROJECT TITLE: Development of Advanced Energy Management System (AdEMS)
PROJECT LEADER: Dr Lazar Z. Velimirović

The main goal of the project is to develop Advanced Energy Management System (AdEMS), which will be the basis of the new service provided to the clients through real-time consumption monitoring and a prediction system. By applying different techniques of “Big Data Analytics”, it is possible to analyze large and diverse data sets to reveal hidden consumption patterns and unknown correlations, which can have a positive effect on dynamic of clients’ consumption, influencing the greater penetration of RES.

Additionally, AdEMS can help private IPS to overcome the existing information asymmetry by applying adequate prediction methods on real-time data for forecasting hourly day-ahead consumptions, but also to have a better long-term prediction for purchasing electricity far in advance.

The project comprises the development of a real-time data acquisition system prototype, which will include installation of low-cost energy metres and data loggers within the premises of industrial consumers; the installation of the required network equipment and setting VPN service within the premises of consumers; a design of the adequate database server and programming the required applications for reading data from the energy metres and data transmission from the data loggers to the central server. The project will be also focused on a consumer’s experience and advance algorithms for “data mining”, which will include the development of a web-based user platform for data processing and visualisation of energy consumption and adjusting one or more suitable “Machine learning” theoretical approaches for determining electricity consumption patterns and predicting future consumer needs.

Overall, AdEMS will have a double effect, as it would enable clients to monitor their consumption and learn from it and also help private IPS to decrease a financial risk by making adequate purchases on the electricity market and giving better estimations for day-ahead hourly consumptions.

PROJECT TITLE: Development of Smart Water Management System (SWaMS)
PROJECT LEADER: Dr Lazar Z. Velimirović

Smart Water Management System (SWaMS) support system is a completely new tool for the Republic of Serbia and the region as well. Water utilities in Serbia are facing many problems: less resources, aging infrastructure, new regulations and policies, demanding customers, optimisation of costs and operations, sustainability, etc.

SWaMS will optimise the infrastructure of the water distribution system, its operations, monitoring, maintenance and management through
  • Development of a smart forecasting, monitoring and failure prediction system in the water distribution network using artificial neural network modelling
  • Smart data analyses for more accurate decision-making related to the network resilience, energy efficiency, water waste minimisation, costs reduction, etc.

SWaMS will constantly adapt to today’s dynamic environments and process big data in real-time, allowing water utility managers to make smart and informed future decisions – improve the network resilience, achieve a better energy consumption, increase the current revenue and plan effective budget strategies.

Our groups of interest are not just water utility companies, but also suppliers, vendors, consulting agencies, research and academic institutions, industrial end-users.

By implementing such an innovative service, we will improve competitiveness on the global market and increase the revenue growth.

SWaMS is a smart and cheap solution to the water sector concerns and in the long run, it has the potential to reform water industry management first in Serbia, and then throughout the region and worldwide as well.
