Mathematical Meeting of Serbia and Montenegro 2019

Mathematical Meeting of Serbia and Montenegro – SMSCG was held from October 11 to 14 in 2019, sponsored and organised by: the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Podgorica, Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the Faculty of Mathematics in Belgrade, Matica Srpska – Association of members in Montenegro and the Mathematical Forum of Montenegro. The Meeting brought together more than 60 mathematicians from Serbia, Montenegro, Republika Srpska, Macedonia, Slovenia, Germany, China and the Czech Republic. Over 50 scientific papers were presented at the occasion.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Montenegro and the Mathematical Institute SANU have broaden their cooperation by mentoring master's and doctoral theses as well as in the teaching process. Dr Žana Kovijanić-Vukićević, full professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Montenegro, defended her master's and doctoral thesis under the mentorship of Rade Živaljević. A doctoral student Edin Lidjan wrote and will soon defend his doctoral dissertation under the mentorship of Dr Đorđe Baralić. Professor Vladimir Dragović, taught classes in Geometry in 2007/08, 2008/09, and 2009/10, and Prof Zoran Petrić has been teaching Logic since the 2017/18 academic year.

On June 18, 2021, at the invitation of Dr Zoran Ognjanović, director of the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade, acting rector of the University of Montenegro Prof Vladimir Božović, visited the Mathematical Institute with the intention of inciting an agreement on establishing cooperation between these two institutions.

Rector Božović and Director Ognjanović reviewed various fields of cooperation in which specific activities can be initiated, primarily in research projects in the field of mathematics, mechanics and computer science, and establishing cooperation between research groups with similar scientific interests, staff exchange, and support for young talents. Special emphasis was placed on the transfer of technologies, on finding solutions required by modern science, industry and market, and their application and assessment in order to ensure the efficiency of various segments of society. Given the rapid development of technologies at the global level, especially in the field of information technology and computer science, the possibilities for the application of scientific results are greater than ever.
