Funded by the Ministry of Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society of the Republic of Srpska, the Faculty of Production and Management Trebinje has launched a project entitled Digitisation of the museum material in the Hercegovina Museum Trebinje. The aim of the project is to initiate the creation of a new digital content with the purpose of protecting the cultural heritage, and promoting a systemic and uniform approach to digitisation of the museum material in the Herzegovina Museum Trebinje, as well as to enhance the online access and visibility of the digital collections of the recognised and nationally relevant contents. The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU).

In 2019, representatives of the Faculty of Production and Management Trebinje, together with the representatives of the Herzegovina Museum Trebinje, visited the Mathematical Institute SANU to discuss the implementation of the project.

The purpose of the visit was the exchange of the best practice experiences with the Mathematical Institute SANU and to have the project participants acquainted with the process of digitisation, the method of presentation, the system of data storing, and the hardware and software used. The thematic approach to the selection of material added an extra value to the project.

Besides the protection of the original material, the advantage of digitisation is the increased access to the material in digital form for the benefit of the public.

Taking into account the amount of material that makes up the Serbian cultural, historical and scientific heritage, which is kept in the Herzegovina Museum Trebinje, the digitisation process was based on the selection of a representative regional digital collection. The digitisation of the Museum's material, which represents valuable and unique specimens of the archaeological and ethnological collection of Jovan Dučić’s legacy, art and natural history collection, has begun.
